The members of rathdowney , Mountrath and Durrow credit unions are facing having the days their credit union is open drastically cut . The opening times for each will be reduced by over 30% in each area . 
The local credit union is the lifeblood of these small rural towns. Many young people and elderly members are dependent on the credit union after closures of the bank of Ireland in each town .
The credit union and its hard working staff have served local people through good times and bad for decades . This is now under threat.
Canice’s credit union CEO has announced that from October the days your credit union will be open is being cut . Mountrath will only be open 3 days and rathdowney and Durrow , only two days a week . They had planned even more dramatic reductions to 1 day per week .
Now is the time to act , before these cuts take effect . This is the beginning of the hallowing out of these branches .
There are vulnerable people who depend on the credit union and have trusted it for generations .
If these cuts take effect staff will be made redundant , further cuts in opening days will follow and older people will be forced to hold cash in their homes , making them a target for burglaries .
We need to stand up now before it’s too late . Please sign this petition so we can demand that CEO Carmel Butler reverses this decision  . The credit union has served our communities brilliantly when the banks have closed down the shutters .
