Keep The Buckhorn Lake Public

The Issue

As most have heard, the city of Weaver is considering selling the “Buckhorn Lake” to a private residence, also being researched is the ability of the City to sell a lake donated for the community without advertising or allowing others a chance to buy.
The lake was donated to the city under the pretense that it would be open to the public, specifically but not exclusively ,the Weaver residents.   The concern that we have is that the city will act in its interest and not in the interests of Weaver residents.

To entertain such an idea would show very poor taste and borderline negligence for the residents wants and needs. The lake is one of very few outdoor activities Weaver has for its residents, especially its youth.  There are some minor issues with repairs and upkeep, those could easily be solved by a permit program or any of the tactics Weaver has used to fund the city’s entities needs and wants in the past.

If the City no longer wants the responsibility  of lake, we believe it should be given back to original owner , whom has expressed his desire to make the lake a place for the residents .

Upon recent city council meetings , they have an interested buyer,  again to sell something that was donated for the people would be absurd, BUT you can never underestimate the power of the dollar… There are a few issues that were brought up by this interested buyer that related to the lake use hindering their business operations, all of those issues could and should be handled by the business, not the city.  Parking Lot issues are as simple as a gate, a lock, a fence or a chain.   Littering issues are city , state and nationwide.. this isn't  a reason to eliminate a staple destination and activity for our residents .

I hope this petition will open the eyes of Weavers leaders, especially the newest additions that promised during their campaigns to have the residents best interests at heart.   The Weaver community wants to keep its lake, it has been meant for the residents long before any new businesses came to town.  And thats how it should stay.
