Executive Policy Meeting (EPC) Sep. 17th, 2024

Our petition group lead by Ed Hume, Gail Asper and retired Pastor Bruce Martin made a presentation to EPC in opposition to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Sherwood Armbruster's Recommendation for EPC to support " Donation of the Ten Commandments Monument at Assiniboine Park to the Fraternal Order of Eagles (FOE) # 23" since FOE's desire was really for keeping it in the Assiniboine Park.  Additionally we had 1,562 petitions supporters (both paper and online)backing FOE, also letter's of support from the Jewish Federation of Winnipeg, the Native Evangelical Association of Canada, and 1400 responses, the most ever received, by the Welcoming Winnipeg Committee and to our understanding most of them positive.

Later in the Meeting (3:45 pm) EPC dropped the first recommendation and added a new recommendation: "That the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) be delegated authority to work with the Assiniboine Park Conservancy (APC), and other groups acceptable to the CAO, to find an appropriate location, including relocation within the Assiniboine Park for the installation of the 10 Commandments Monument: In determining the appropriate location, the CAO will consider the original intent of the donor as well as views of other groups in the community."  All 6 members of the EPC voted unanimously for this new recommendation which was sent to the City Council Meeting on Sep.26th, 2024.
