HERE IS AN EMAIL THAT I RECEIVED FROM SKYE TODAY I WOULD APPRECIATE YOUR THOUGHTS ON IT PLEASE

Dear Mr O’Brien,

Thank you for your email and for taking the time to reach out again. I completely understand why you are seeking clarity, particularly with some of the commentary you may be seeing online, and I appreciate the opportunity to provide a more detailed response.

Firstly, I want to reassure you that Sky Q is not being withdrawn and remains a fully supported television platform. We continue to support all existing Sky Q customers and there are no confirmed plans communicated to customers that set a specific “end of life” date for Sky Q services. As with any technology platform, there will naturally be ongoing evolution over time, but Sky Q continues to form an important part of our TV offering today.

It’s also important to provide some context around how the TV market is evolving. The television industry is now one of the most competitive and rapidly changing environments, with customers increasingly choosing how they watch content based on:

Access to apps and on-demand services
Flexibility in how services are delivered
The speed and reliability of broadband connectivity

In response to this, Sky has committed to continuously investing in innovation across multiple platforms, ensuring customers have access to the best possible viewing experience depending on their individual circumstances.

You may have seen references to newer products such as Sky Stream. Internally, these newer services are designed to complement—not immediately replace—existing platforms.

For example, we are continuing to support both satellite-based services like Sky Q and internet-delivered services at the same time. In fact, internal product positioning confirms that Sky Stream is introduced alongside Sky Q rather than as a direct replacement, giving customers flexibility in how they access Sky content.

We are also continuing to support Sky Q operationally. Where customers experience technical limitations (for example, satellite access constraints such as line-of-sight issues), we may offer alternatives like Sky Stream to ensure continuity of service. However, this is done on a case-by-case basis where Sky Q cannot be supported at a property, rather than as a blanket migration.

A key consideration in all of this is broadband infrastructure. While internet-delivered TV services are becoming more prominent, they are still dependent on the quality and availability of broadband in each location. We fully recognise that not all homes currently have the broadband capacity required for a fully streaming-based TV experience. Because of this, Sky’s approach is to:

Continue supporting Sky Q for customers where satellite remains the most reliable solution
Offer Sky Stream or similar services where broadband infrastructure is strong enough to support them
Ensure customers always have access to a consistent and high-quality TV experience

In simple terms, we are supporting both platforms side by side, rather than forcing a transition that may not suit all customers today.
Looking longer term, while we cannot provide specific future timelines or confirm industry speculation, what I can confidently say is that Sky’s commitment is to:

Maintain support for our existing customer base
Continue investing in innovation and new viewing experiences
Adapt our services in line with customer needs, technology development, and infrastructure capability

I appreciate that reports referring to specific future dates can be concerning, but these are often based on broader market speculation rather than confirmed customer-facing plans. Should there ever be any material change that affects customers directly, Sky would always communicate this clearly and well in advance.

I hope this provides the clarity you were looking for, and reassures you of our continued support for Sky Q alongside newer innovations.

Thank you again for your patience and for taking the time to contact us. If there is anything further I can help clarify, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Kind regards,
Patrick
