Keep SkiCo Mountain Access Truly Affordable for Locals

Keep SkiCo Mountain Access Truly Affordable for Locals
The Issue
We, the undersigned, are full-time residents of the Roaring Fork Valley who care deeply about maintaining equitable access to the mountains that define our community.
Over the years, the cost of a Premier Pass has increased significantly — putting pressure not only on individuals paying full price but also on those using the Chamber pass program, which was originally designed to help working locals afford to ski.
✅We believe now is the time for Aspen Skiing Company to:
1. Introduce a new community-tiered Premier Pass for full-time Roaring Fork Valley locals who are not affiliated with a Chamber-member business. This includes freelancers, service workers, caregivers, nonprofit employees, and others who are core to the valley but excluded from current discounts.
2. Implement long-term safeguards on Chamber Premier Pass pricing, including:
• Capping annual price increases at no more than 3%, aligning with typical inflation.
• Rolling back the Chamber pass price to $1,745 by the 2026–27 season — the inflation-adjusted rate based on the 2016–17 price of $1,299.
• Preventing further hikes that outpace the local cost of living.
3. Increase transparency around how pass pricing is determined and the rationale behind annual increases for locals.
4.Uphold the commitment to local access by acknowledging that affordability is essential to maintaining the soul and inclusivity of our ski community.
📊 The Numbers Matter
In 2016–17, the Chamber Premier Pass cost about $1,299.
If it had only increased with 3% inflation per year, it would cost $1,745+ in 2026–27.
But at the current pace (~7% per year), it's projected to hit $2,070+ — an 18+% overage, or $325 more than it should be.
That’s not sustainable for the working people this community depends on.
We’re proud to live and work here, and we want future generations to enjoy the same access to the mountains that shaped this valley’s identity. Keeping the cost of access in line with reality is how we preserve that legacy.
Let’s keep skiing local — and fair.
