Hello All!
Please submit your feedback to CMS regarding their latest draft TODAY:
Draft 2 still has all of Sharon/Carmel zoned students leaving Myers Park. CMS indicates the main motivation for moving students is due to capacity issues and balancing of SES at other schools such as South Meck. They have expanded the Sharon/Carmel zone to include additional neighboring areas that were previously Sharon/AG. Current and previous AG families, we need your support!
Incredibly, CMS found room for additional Huntingtowne Farms Elementary students to attend Myers Park while reassigning current students away from Myers Park. This is completely unacceptable.
In addition, they are creating NEW split elementary schools in the name of SES. CMS needs to stop this action. Some students will be forced to travel past their current school to attend a different school farther away. What is going on?
As we know, most in Sharon's zone will be forced to travel longer distances to attend South Meck. This is a clear violation of the Guiding Principles CMS Board members are required to uphold.
It is a Guiding Principle violation to split Sharon Elementary into two different high schools and leading to a divisive sentiment in our community.
In the latest CMS Board meeting, they began a discussion of changing those Guiding Principles. We have asked them to follow them repeatedly through this process, and until they are changed, they need to follow them.
Switching students from their current feeder should be a last resort and CMS should not be looking for ways to disrupt current students.
Here is the data:
- Current enrollment at MP is 3593 students.
- Olde Providence Elementary is leaving MP either to Providence or South Meck. Subtract the 368 students from OP currently and MP is at 3225 students. This alone satisfies a significant capacity reduction.
- Myers Park Elementary School feeders are down 15% over the last 4 years. Subtracting 15% over the next 4 years at Myers Park and we get to 2741 students.
- To account for additional growth, which my research shows to be extremely minimal, let's put us at only 12% reduction, which still leaves us at 2838. This is only an estimate and EXTREMELY generous on the safe side of not over predicting.
That's a reduction of 3593 to 2838 over 4 years, with much of that relief coming in the 2024-2025 school year. That's 755 students and 21% reduction over the next 4 years. There is room for ALL of Sharon to remain at Myers Park.
I arrived at these numbers with CMS provided data. I'm happy to share the data with others to review.
Use the data in your feedback! Also, use the fact that this has taken a horrible toll on our community. We should be united and not at odds with our neighbors. Feedback is due FRIDAY! You can submit more than once if you have already submitted some feedback. Please share this sentiment with the board, as well. Emails are available in previous posts, or I can provide them.
Thanks for your support and please take a couple minutes to submit your feedback now.
