Hello All,

The Phase 2 CMS Community Feedback meeting has been switched to South Meck Wednesday night at 6:30pm.  I know it's difficult, but please show up!  Wear GREEN to support Sharon's efforts to remain at Myers Park.  From the information I've received, Carmel boundaries have changed in this draft and MORE of Sharon will be impacted by the rezoning.  Please keep sharing the petition!  It's important to advocate for ALL of Sharon to remain at MP, regardless of the middle school changes.

Here are few changes to note:

  • Draft 2 has Sharon/Carmel rezoned for South Meck
  • South Meck SES Levels: High SES is increased to 57%, Low SES is reduced to 30%.
  • Myers Park SES Levels: High SES is reduced to 46% and Low SES at 28%
  • Capacity at Myers Park will be 88% (there is clearly room for ALL of Sharon to remain at MP)
  • Neighborhoods below Fairview are now zoned for Carmel (and therefore South Meck for high school) with the exception of Governor's Square, Foxcroft East, Winding Brook and Town and Country.  Those select neighborhoods will remain at AG and Myers Park in this draft
  • While we are removed from Myers Park, a portion of students from Huntingtowne Farms Elementary are rezoned to AG and Myers Park, therefore creating a split feeder for HFES (Guiding Principle violation!)
  • Sterling Elementary now splits to two different middle schools and comes back together for high school (the exact same current scenario as Sharon/Carmel they say needs to be fixed)

Reasons the Keep ALL of Sharon at Myers Park:

  • The drafts have consistently pulled Sharon/Carmel to SM to even out their concentration of low SES. High SES at SM is 11% more than MP in the new draft, which means SM no longer needs our SES
  • There is room for us at Myers Park. Draft 2 has South Meck at 4% higher staff building utilization than Myers Park. I've provided data from CMS that shows a 14% decrease in enrollment at Myers Park feeder elementary schools over the past 4 years.  Sharon Elementary has a 25% decrease.  Myers Park enrollment will be dropping steadily over the next 4 years naturally and development is not adding to enrollment numbers.
  • CMS is creating NEW splits in feeders.  Keeping our current middle school split and keeping ALL of Sharon at MP seems to be an acceptable solution given the justification of creating new split feeder patterns.
  • Current feeder patterns should not be disrupted unless data shows it is absolutely necessary.  Home to school distance, not splitting elementary schools, utilization, and SES are all in our favor to remain at MP.

Thanks for your support and please show up and share your feedback with CMS School Board members.  Yard signs are available!
