The Issue

Growing up in Idaho has instilled in me a love for the great outdoors. As an avid hunter, fisher, and outdoor enthusiast, I have always cherished the wide-open spaces that Idaho’s public lands offer. These lands are not just a backdrop for enjoyment but serve as vital resources for recreation, biodiversity, and our state's heritage. Unfortunately, these precious areas are under threat as privatization and development creep into our forests, changing the very fabric of Idaho’s landscape.

In recent years, we have witnessed billionaires and private entities purchasing large tracts of our public lands, areas that have historically been accessible to everyone. As these lands become privatized, access is denied. What were once freely accessible trails, fishing spots, and hunting grounds have turned into exclusive playgrounds for those who can afford it. This not only restricts access for current generations but threatens to sever the connection future generations might have with nature.

If we do not take action soon, our beloved west may end up dotted with hunting clubs and pay-to-play recreational areas. We will lose not just public access but also the freedom, exploration, and discovery that come with it. Idaho has always been a place where nature is within reach for everyone, regardless of their economic status; we need to preserve that legacy.

It is vital for the state of Idaho to enact legislation that safeguards our public lands from being sold off to private entities. Laws and policies must be put into place to conserve these areas, ensuring they remain open for public use and enjoyment. By designating these lands as protected resources, we can maintain their natural beauty and availability for outdoor activities.

Join me in urging our state legislators to take immediate steps to protect Idaho’s public lands. Sign this petition to keep these lands open for everyone to enjoy, ensuring that the traditions and connections we have with our environment remain strong for generations to come. Stand with me in preserving the spirit of Idaho and the accessibility of its natural wonders. Please sign this petition today and help keep our public lands public.
