The Issue

We, the residents of Yellow Springs, Ohio request that Village Council provides a formal method for community input regarding any future development on the village-owned Glass Farm property, including and not limited to a public vote.

This request is aligned with the Yellow Springs Comprehensive Land Use Plan (2020), which states in part that, “future land uses should reflect the values of the community,” that “ecologically important areas will be actively preserved,” that “redevelopment and infill locations are favored over development of greenfield locations,” and that “natural features and resources are preserved.”

The Plan also identifies several community priorities that are directly relevant to the Glass Farm property, including: protecting environmentally sensitive areas, maintaining the character of Yellow Springs as a village, preserving the agricultural and rural nature of the community, and ensuring active participation by residents in decisions that affect the village’s future.

We formally request that Village Council pause all decisions concerning development of the Glass Farm property until public input has been gathered via public vote and the full impacts of existing residential development on the Yellow Springs community have been carefully assessed.
