Keep preventive healthcare free from politics

Keep preventive healthcare free from politics
The Issue
Right now, over 150 million Americans rely on the Affordable Care Act to access free preventive services like cancer screenings, diabetes checks, and HIV prevention medications. These services save lives—and money—by catching health issues early. But a recent Supreme Court decision just handed more power over these services to the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services.
That means the life-saving work of the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, which makes science-based recommendations about what insurers must cover, could soon be shaped by political agendas instead of medical evidence.
We can’t afford to let politics get between people and their health. Decisions about cancer screenings and preventive medications should be made by doctors and scientists—not politicians.
Tell Congress: pass legislation now to protect the independence of the USPSTF. Keep preventive care decisions grounded in science, not ideology. Our health depends on it.
