We, the undersigned, stand in firm support of the artist, Pink (Alecia Moore), and her right to call out public figures whose rhetoric alienates, marginalizes, &/or targets Jewish people.  This urgent call comes in the wake of events that followed rapper Macklemore’s recent performance at MetLife Stadium. Macklemore showed complete disregard for concert-goers when he turned his opening music performance into a political exposé by projecting one-sided, deeply polarizing war imagery and making onstage statements that undoubtedly made many in his audience feel uncomfortable and perhaps even threatened.  When Pink utilized her own social media platform to express disapproval of Macklemore's behavior, she became the target of aggressive cancellation efforts and the focus of an ongoing petition aimed at removing her as UNICEF ambassador.

We outright reject any campaign seeking to penalize Pink for calling out Macklemore's divisive and marginalizing behavior.  As a member of the Jewish community herself, Pink's voice is a beacon of light to many who feel silenced and alone.  The weaponization of social justice language to silence a Jewish artist (or any artist!) who expresses fear or objects to exclusionary rhetoric is a behavior that must not be tolerated.  We call on UNICEF to refuse to give into bad-faith cancellation efforts.  Pink clearly understands the importance of speaking out against rhetoric that isolates the Jewish community as a necessary step to ensuring mutual respect and human dignity.  We thank her and all artists who use their voices to promote unity, human rights, and genuine respect for people of all backgrounds.  We thank UNICEF for standing with Pink!
