Keep partners K9 Klouse and Cam D. together!

The Issue

***PLEASE see Update #3 if you are a resident of Leelanau County! And even if not and you have friends & family in Leelanau County please pass along to them! Its the right thing to do for KLOUSE!!!

***PLEASE be sure to see Update #2 after you read issue below! It is important!

In 2023, K9 Klouse’s former handler decided to end his employment with the Leelanau County Sheriff’s Office on his own accord to seek employment in a different state. At the time of his leaving, Klouse was 4 years old with working time left. Fast forward to 2025, and Klouse’s current handler is leaving to work at a different local agency, Klouse is now 6 years old, and placing him with a third handler is not an option.

Klouse’s current handler, Deputy Cameron Drzewiecki, has drafted a letter to Sheriff Borkovich requesting that he retire Klouse to him and let him live out his days with him and his family. Sheriff Borkovich has decided to bypass his current handler and offer him to his previous handler despite Cameron wanting to keep him. Many people who know Klouse have stated how much Klouse has changed for the better since being in Cameron’s care - those people include working dog professionals. At this time, Klouse is likely going to be sent back to his previous handler by way of an unknown courier company sometime during the week of June 23rd, 2025. Klouse would have a very long transport with someone he does not know and going to a home completely unfamiliar to him.

We NEED as many people as are willing to reach out to Sheriff Borkovich to urge him to reconsider and do what is best for Klouse. Please sign our petition AND send the pre-written email, and help us keep Klouse with his current family!

Please see update to email Sheriff Borkovich directly to express your concerns for Klouse!
