CLOSURE ANNOUNCEMENT - AUGUST 2026
We are so grateful for the support received at the time of launching this petition in December 2023 - your support enabled us to continue our services for almost 3 years!
Sadly, we have announced that Vida will close at the end of August 2026.
Each month, Vida provided around 216 therapy sessions and reduced pressure on the NHS making a saving in the cost of specialist mental health services. Our closure leaves a significant gap in specialist trauma support for women in Sheffield.
We extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who has supported Vida: service users, staff, volunteers, funders, and partners over the years.
Most of all, we want to thank the women who trusted us with their stories and allowed us to walk alongside them on their recovery journeys.
It has been a privilege ♥

Release emergency funding to save Sheffield’s vital free therapy service!
Sheffield women’s charity Vida needs an urgent cash injection of £54,000 or our essential free therapy service will close after January 2024.
Vida is fighting closure after we were overlooked in several expected funding bids.
Vida has spent 30 years coordinating local work against domestic abuse in Sheffield and now offers a specialist therapeutic service for women recovering from trauma caused by domestic abuse. The service is always over-subscribed and offers women in Sheffield a vital opportunity to heal and recover. Approximately 1 in 4 women in the UK have experienced some form of domestic abuse and over half of these victims will develop PTSD. This means thousands of women right here in Sheffield need our services.
Vida helps on average 250 women and girls per year with free therapy by expert trauma-informed therapists to help them move forward with their lives after abuse. 95% of women who go through Vida’s service report a reduction in their trauma symptoms and 83% an improvement in their wellbeing.
Service user Janice says “the therapy I got at Vida saved my life... I was not able to find other services to support my long-term recovery. Now I feel happier, safer and I understand what I deserve in a healthy relationship.”
Join us and call on local leaders to release emergency funding so that we can ensure that every woman suffering from trauma due to abuse can access the therapy services she needs.
Your signature could make all the difference between a life lived under the shadow of trauma or one where healing and recovery are possible.
