Keep our Post Office open in Akron, AL
The Issue
We, the undersigned residents, postal customers, and supporters of Akron, Alabama, respectfully petition the United States Postal Service to keep Akron Post Office open and ensure regular, reliable access to postal services.
Our post office is an essential service for our community. Residents depend on it to receive mail and packages, send important documents, purchase stamps, and conduct everyday business. Traveling to another town for these services creates an added burden, especially for older adults, people with disabilities, and residents with limited transportation.
For years, our community has experienced inconsistent staffing and limited access to services. These conditions have made it difficult for residents to use and depend on the Akron Post Office. We ask USPS to address these service problems and give our post office a fair opportunity to serve the community before considering any closure or further reduction in services. Limited use resulting from unreliable access should not be treated as evidence that our community does not need its post office.
We respectfully request that the United States Postal Service:
Keep Akron Post Office open as a permanent postal location serving Akron and surrounding residents.
Provide consistent staffing and regular, clearly posted service hours.
Restore and maintain access to essential postal services, including purchasing stamps and postage, mailing and receiving packages, and accessing mail and post office boxes.
Address ongoing delivery and service concerns and provide a clear point of contact for assistance.
Communicate directly with residents and town officials about any proposed changes and provide meaningful opportunities for community input before making decisions.
Akron deserves dependable access to the postal services that help keep our residents productive, connected, our businesses operating, and our community strong. We urge USPS to work with our town to strengthen services and preserve this essential community resource.
