The Issue

To: Wilson County Board of Education, Wilson County Director of Schools (Jeff Luttrell), and Wilson County School Board Members.
Petition Statement:
We, the residents of Wynfield, Herrington, Wright Farms, and Walton Grove in Wilson County, strongly object to the proposed 2026-2027 school rezoning plan, which aims to remove our neighborhoods from the Rutland Elementary School zone.
Our community is deeply invested in the Rutland Elementary school family. This rezoning disrupts established relationships, creates unnecessary transportation burdens, and disrupts the educational stability of our children. While we understand the need to address growth with the new Central Pike Elementary school, this move does not serve the best interests of our established residential areas.
We demand that the Wilson County Board of Education:
Keep all currently impacted homes in the Wynfield, Herrington, Wright Farms, and Walton Grove neighborhoods within the Rutland Elementary School zone.
Explore alternative solutions that do not move established neighborhoods away from their current schools, such as rezoning only new developments.
Prioritize the community impact and educational stability over simply reducing school population numbers.

Economic Impact and Property Rights:
Many homeowners in Wynfield , Herrington Wright Farms and Walton Grove purchased their homes at a premium specifically because of the Rutland Elementary designation. This rezoning threatens to undermine our home equity and long-term investment security. Real estate data consistently shows that homes in sought-after elementary zones sell faster and at higher price points. By removing us from this zone, the Board is causing an immediate and quantifiable negative impact on our community’s market value

Please allow our children to continue their education with their friends and teachers at Rutland Elementary.

Rezoning is necessary to address the continued overcrowding at Rutland and Gladeville. We understand that change can be difficult, but we are confident that you and your family will have a positive experience at Central Pike Elementary. To help provide support during this transition, several Rutland teachers will also be joining the Central Pike staff.
