The Issue

We, the residents of Valley Oak, respectfully urge the Roseville Joint Union High School District to reconsider the proposed boundary changes that would reassign our neighborhood from Woodcreek High School to Roseville High School.

Our neighborhood is a newly developed community, with many families having moved here within the past two years. A key factor in choosing this area was the established boundary for Woodcreek High School. Families made long-term financial and personal decisions based on this understanding.

The proposed reassignment raises several serious concerns:

1. Disruption to a New Community
This change disproportionately impacts families who recently moved here with the reasonable expectation that their children would attend Woodcreek High School. Altering that expectation so soon after development creates unnecessary disruption and uncertainty.

2. Increased Distance and Commute
Roseville High School is significantly farther from our neighborhood, resulting in longer daily commutes for students. This affects not only convenience, but also student well-being, participation in extracurricular activities, and family schedules.

3. Splitting of Our Neighborhood
The current proposal divides our neighborhood, sending nearby homes—and even next-door neighbors—to different high schools. This undermines community cohesion and creates avoidable social and logistical challenges for students and families.

4. Inconsistent Boundary Planning
While our neighborhood is being removed from Woodcreek High School, another area is being added. This raises concerns about fairness and consistency in how boundary decisions are being made.

We fully understand that the district must balance enrollment and plan for growth. However, we respectfully request that these goals be achieved without unnecessarily disrupting a newly established community.

We respectfully ask the district to:

Allow our neighborhood to remain assigned to Woodcreek High School, or
Revise the proposed boundary plan to keep our neighborhood intact and avoid splitting it between schools
Our goal is not to oppose change, but to ensure that decisions are made thoughtfully, fairly, and with consideration for the families most directly affected.

We appreciate your time and consideration and hope the district will work with our community toward a more equitable solution.
