The Issue

On the morning of Friday, April 17, 2026, a child was hit by a car while crossing Holly Springs Road to go to HRMS.

Thankfully, he is okay—just minor bumps and bruises. But for the all parents with kids at HRES and HRMS who use the Holly Springs Road school crossing, this accident was something we’ve been fearing and expecting, and we know it likely won’t be the last if things don’t change.

We are petitioning the Holly Springs Town Council, Holly Springs Mayor Mike Kondratick, and the Holly Springs Police Department to work alongside HRES and HRMS parents, teachers, and administrators to put in a place a permanent solution, additional to the crossing lights,  to make this school crossing safe for our kids.

Possible solutions include police presence, permanent crossing guards, speed bumps, and an elevated crosswalk.

Let’s work together to keep our kids safe while going to school!

I will be taking this petition to the 4/21 Town Council meeting and entering it into public comment as a first step to collaborating with town officials to create a safer town of all Holly Springs residents.

Thank you to everyone who has spoken up and signed this petition. Thank you for coming to the meeting on Tuesday and for being engaged. The incident last weekend is a powerful reminder that our kids safety, especially walking to school, has to be a priority. This is the kind of situation where we need to work together, residents, schools, police, and the Town, to find real, lasting solutions. I fully support moving this forward and will be working with staff and our partners to evaluate options like increased police presence, crossing guards, and design improvements to make this area safer. Please don't hesitate to reach out to me! Kara Kara Foster, OD | Town Council Member
