The Issue

I moved to our community in Texas with the understanding that our HOA pool would be open year-round. This was a significant selling point for me and many of my neighbors who relish the warm Texan weather. Having access to a pool is not just a luxury—it's a way for families to get together, for kids to enjoy playing outdoors safely, and for individuals to maintain healthy lifestyles by swimming leisurely or exercising regularly.

Like many others, I chose this neighborhood because of the promise of the year-round use of the pool. It's disappointing to see this commitment wane, especially when the opportunity to swim is one of the few amenities that promote community engagement and provide a communal space for residents of various backgrounds to come together. As it stands, the pool's closure during several months robs us of these opportunities during much of the year, denying us access to a resource that is both a relaxation and interaction haven.

Geographically, Texas is known for its extended periods of warm, sunny weather. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), cities like ours in Texas experience temperatures conducive to swimming for most of the year. Thus, keeping the pool operational makes practical sense and maximizes the use of community resources. Additionally, a year-round pool can raise neighborhood satisfaction rates and enhance property values, as it remains a major attraction for potential homebuyers seeking vibrant community features.

Reopening the pool throughout the year doesn't just benefit personal enjoyment but contributes heavily to our neighborhood's social and economic fabric. I understand there may be concerns about the cost of maintenance and staffing; however, there are solutions. Utilization of energy-efficient heating sources, solar pool covers, or community volunteer programs for maintenance could significantly mitigate costs. Additionally, residents and the HOA could collaboratively explore budget reallocation or reasonable fee increases that reflect the value brought by having a year-round pool.

Therefore, I urge our Homeowner's Association to reconsider their decision and keep the pool open 365 days a year. This adjustment would align with the expectations set at the time of property purchase and support the collective needs and well-being of our community. I invite all my fellow residents who wish to see our pool operational year-round to support this petition with their signature. Together, we can work towards a solution that benefits us all and keeps our community thriving.
