I am writing to bring to your attention a pressing issue that affects not only my family but also our entire community. Our neighborhood in unincorporated Douglas County is a haven for young families, including mine. We have children in the area who need more open spaces where they can run, play, and grow. Unfortunately, this precious opportunity for them is now at risk due to a proposed rezoning for a multi-story apartment complex that could forever alter our community's landscape.

Currently, the property at the northeast corner of Meridian Village Parkway and Ridgegate Parkway is under threat of being repurposed. What was once envisioned as a space for public enjoyment may soon be lost to profit-driven development. As parents and community members, this deeply concerns us, as we strive to give our children the safe, bustling parkland they deserve.

If this multi-story apartment complex is constructed, it will remove one of the area’s last remaining green spaces, depriving surrounding communities of local open space for a park.

However, it isn't just about preserving green spaces. The proposed rezoning would introduce a building project that is not suitable for the area. This type of development poses a serious strain on our infrastructure, already at its limits from water supply issues, frequent power outages, and mounting traffic congestion. Douglas County needs responsible planning and thoughtful zoning to ensure sustainable growth for the future.

Besides the local impact, there’s a matter of principle at stake: the decision process behind this rezoning proposal is tainted by conflicts of interest. Decisions made for profit should not take precedence over the well-being and sustainability of our community.

Therefore, we urge Douglas County officials to keep the current zoning for park and recreation area intact that will benefit all residents.
