Our names are Maria and Jesse and we are residents of West Grey, ON. We are writing this petition to request a permit to keep our beloved pet goat, Osiris. He has been a big part of our family for the past three years and we cannot imagine life without him.

Osiris is not just any ordinary pet, he is an important member of our family. He has grown up with us and our dogs and they have become inseparable friends. They play together, eat together, and even sleep together. Osiris has brought so much joy into our lives that we cannot bear the thought of losing him.

Unfortunately, there is a by-law in West Grey that prohibits residents from keeping farm animals as pets within city limits. This means that Osiris could be taken away due to the zoning of the property we live on.

We understand the concerns about keeping farm animals in residential areas but Osiris is not like other farm animals. He is not under the definition of livestock. He is well taken care of and loved going to constant vet visits like our other pets, is castrated, and is not used for meat or breeding. In fact, he has become somewhat of a local celebrity in our area because everyone loves seeing him out on walks with his dog friends and can be seen on the Markdale facebook page.

We believe that obtaining a permit to keep Osiris will not only benefit us but also benefit the community as well by allowing them to continue enjoying his presence in their neighborhood.

We urge you to consider granting us permission to keep Osiris as part of our family so that he can continue living happily with his loved ones without fear of being taken away from us due to this by-law.
