Keep NYC's Mount Prospect Park Green – Stop the Concrete Takeover

The Issue

We support adding more skateparks to New York City, but paving over part of Mount Prospect Park is the wrong choice. This small but vital green space serves as a retreat for families, seniors, and local schools, offering shade, open space, and a quiet escape in a busy city. Once it’s paved, it’s gone forever.

The proposed site also raises serious safety concerns. Skaters would be at risk from falling debris, uneven terrain, and a nearby iron-pointed fence. The park’s entrance spills onto Eastern Parkway, creating a clear hazard as more skaters are drawn to the area. Even the skateboarding nonprofit working with the city recommends against building parks in locations with poor visibility, yet this plan does just that.

Thousands of residents have already spoken out against this project, but city officials have ignored their concerns. There are better alternatives, like Brower Park or existing paved spaces that could be revitalized for skating without sacrificing green space.

We urge the city to reconsider and work with the community to find a more suitable location. Let’s build a skatepark—just not at the expense of Mount Prospect Park. Sign and share the petition to local friends and neighbors!!
