Keep Northwood Kids in Northwood! No on IUSD Option 3 Boundary Change!

This petition made change with 481 supporters!

Continue to email IUSD. Email members of the Boundary Committee. Email members of IUSD School Board. They need to hear us!

Please sign this petition to let IUSD know their Option 3 plan to change our middle school from Sierra Vista Middle School to Venado Middle School is unacceptable for Northwood Elementary School students.

Get the word out to other parents in the attendance boundary. This affects all kids in the boundary, even if they are attending other elementary schools using school choice.

The Village of Northwood is one of the oldest in Irvine. Many Northwood Elementary students, siblings, and their parents have attended the same legacy schools. Our friends and neighbors have spent decades supporting Northwood schools. Don't let new developments push us out of the schools we have served since they were built!

Negatives include:

  • Crossing the 5 Freeway
  • Negotiating rush hour traffic in an area of heavy congestion
  • Increased traffic on all streets that cross the 5
  • Combo curriculum at Venado MS to prep for IHS and NHS
  • Potentially eliminating the option of NHS for our kids
  • Reduced property values
  • Lack of interaction with neighborhood peers
  • Lack of relationship building with future high school peers before high school begins
  • Siblings split up and no common experiences between siblings (sibling rule only applies if there is space available in preferred school)
  • Families having to negotiate up to three schools that are not in a reasonably close proximity
  • Inappropriate rezoning a stable neighborhood
  • Many live up to 4 miles from proposed middle school
  • Remove the option of walking/biking to school
  • Sign and add other negatives for our community
