A massive thank you to everyone who has signed and shared the petition, which reached over 3,500 signatures before kickoff, equivalent to over 7.5% of a typical home crowd! Achieving this entirely organically in two weeks is a real testament to how strongly many Sunderland supporters feel about this issue.
Because of your efforts, the petition and its press coverage have clearly demonstrated our opposition to any invitation for Farage. The club will now understand that this opposition exists and will need to take it into account. Furthermore, it has shown those outside the club the values and decency of Sunderland supporters.
I hope Sunderland fans enjoyed the win today! I'd also like to thank those outside the fanbase who have shown solidarity and supported the petition. It's been really uplifting to see so many people come together on an issue more important than football.
Appallingly, following the match, Brian Brobbey has become yet another Sunderland player targeted with disgusting racist abuse on social media. It's a stark reminder of how important it is to maintain the club's anti-racist values. I hope Brian receives the support he deserves, and those responsible are held accountable.
Thank you again for your support!
