The Issue

As a member of the Armstrong community, I am aware of the recent sudden and unanticipated decision by School District 83 to reassign Principal Val Edgell from Armstrong Elementary School to a different school in Salmon Arm for the 2025-2026 school year

I believe this decision should be revisited.

Armstrong Elementary is a strong, connected school community.
Principal Edgell has provided consistent leadership, helping students, families, and staff navigate a year marked by challenges including serious staff illnesses, loss of support staff positions, and ongoing recovery from pandemic disruptions.

In this context, removing the school's principal adds unnecessary instability and places additional stress on both students and staff.

The well-being of children at AES should be a top priority. Our students deserve a learning environment that is stable, safe, and supportive.

By signing this letter, I respectfully ask the School District to reconsider the decision to reassign Principal Edgell and to take into account the serious and lasting impact this move would have on the Armstrong school community.
