Keep Mr. Ian Pascua at Alberta Rider Elementary – A Teacher Our Kids Need
The Issue
Mr. Ian Pascua is more than just a great teacher—he is a vital presence in our school community. As the only male teacher at Alberta Rider Elementary and a proud Asian American educator, Mr. Pascua provides representation, mentorship, and a diverse voice that our children greatly benefit from—especially young boys and students of color who rarely see themselves reflected in their teachers.
But Mr. Pascua’s impact doesn’t stop in the classroom.
He runs the school’s Chess Club, giving students a unique opportunity to build confidence, strategic thinking, and community. He also took the initiative to lead Asian American and Pacific Islander Month programming, ensuring that students learn about and celebrate cultures that are too often overlooked. Without him, these enriching experiences simply wouldn’t exist.
Parents, students, and staff have seen firsthand the positive impact Mr. Pascua has on classroom culture, student engagement, and the inclusive environment we all want for our school. His presence contributes to a richer, more balanced education for every child.
We understand the challenges TTSD faces with budget constraints and staffing policies. However, we believe that equity, representation, and student impact must be at the center of decision-making.
We respectfully ask the Tigard-Tualatin School District to do everything possible to retain Mr. Pascua at Alberta Rider. Let’s not wait until next year when we’re once again scrambling to staff a split classroom—let’s make the right decision now, for our kids and our community.
Please sign and share this petition if you believe Alberta Rider should continue to be home to teachers who reflect the diversity, strength, and values of our community.
