The Issue

On October 20, the Monsey Scoop reported that the Monsey Fire District plans to cut ties with its longtime partner, the all-volunteer Brewer Fire Company.

Brewer Fire Company is made up of dozens of volunteers who have dedicated themselves to protecting our community. They wake up in the middle of the night. They leave work during the day. They leave their families behind and walk toward danger when the rest of us are running from it.

And they do it as volunteers.

Brewer Fire Company has earned the trust and respect of the communities it serves. In fact, the Monsey Fire District recently entered into an agreement with the Village of Spring Valley to provide fire protection there as well.

Yet now, the Monsey Fire District has added $1.6 MILLION to its 2027 budget as part of a plan to cut ties with Brewer and replace volunteer firefighters with paid personnel.

Why should taxpayers spend an additional $1.6 million to sideline dedicated volunteers who have been professionally serving our community for decades?

And $1.6 million may only be the beginning. A paid department creates ongoing salary, staffing, benefit, and pension costs that taxpayers could be responsible for for years to come.

The volunteers of Brewer Fire Company aren't asking to walk away. They want to continue serving their community.

For decades, when our community needed them, they showed up for us.

Now it's our turn to show up for them.

Sign this petition to show the Monsey Fire District that our community supports Brewer Fire Company, values the service of its volunteers, and wants careful stewardship of our tax dollars.

And most importantly, make your voice heard in the Fire Commissioner election on December 8, and vote for Chaim Moshe Hoffman.

In the last election, only about 200 voters turned out. Every vote matters.

Sign the petition. Share it with your neighbors. And make your voice count.
