The Issue

Last winter, the dog park in Marlborough, MA, was closed following a storm, while just next door, Northborough residents banded together to ensure their park remained accessible by shoveling the entrance. For those of us who cherish the Ghiloni dog park as a place where our four-legged friends can play and exercise all year round, the closure was a huge disappointment.

The Ghiloni dog park is more than just a plot of land with some fencing; it's a vibrant community hub. Our dogs thrive on their regular play sessions, and many of us, as dog owners, rely on the social and physical benefits this park provides. It's a destination where connections are made—not just among our pets, but among us as neighbors and friends.

This winter, with the town's cooperation, we can keep the park accessible, despite heavy snow. I have already committed to personally shovel the walkways leading to both the small and large dog areas. However, my efforts alone aren't enough. We need the town to collaborate by plowing the parking areas as they clear the roads, which are already maintained through the winter season. This small gesture can make a significant difference, ensuring that our community continues to thrive even during the cold months.

In the previous year, the rest of Ghiloni was cleared after snowfalls, yet, sadly, the dog park was neglected. By keeping the dog park open and accessible, we not only prevent isolation during the long winter months but also promote the health and happiness of both pets and people.

I urge you to join me in calling on the Marlborough town officials to include the dog park in their snow clearance routine. This is a reasonable and achievable step, especially when paralleled with the existing care given to the rest of Ghiloni Park. Together, let's ensure that our pets have their beloved space maintained year-round.

Sign this petition and help us keep the Ghiloni dog park open every winter, making it a accessible haven for all our canine companions and their families.
