The Issue

Mail is more than just letters and packages; it's the lifeline for many citizens, especially in our community of Columbia, MO. I'm deeply concerned about the recent decision to remove the flat sorting and letter machines from our local mail processing and distribution facility. This change will not only inconvenience all local residents, but it also poses a significant threat to the timely processing of essential mail, including our mail-in ballots.

The proposed plan to move processing operations to Kansas City and St. Louis facilities undermines the efficiency and reliability of our local mail services. Traveling these longer distances will lead to potential delays, increased carbon emissions, and a loss of jobs in our community. Our Columbia facility has long been adept at managing the needs of our locals, and it must remain equipped to continue doing so.

Elections rely heavily on timely mail delivery, and any disruption could potentially disenfranchise voters. Mail-in ballots, vital for many during these modern times, particularly elderly and disabled citizens, require reliable local processing. It is paramount that the integrity of our electoral process be preserved and any potential delays be avoided.

We need to ensure that local mail stays local. Investing in our local processing facilities rather than stripping them of essential machinery can maintain service efficiency, preserve jobs, and support the community's best interests. Senator Josh Hawley and Senator Eric Schmitt must hear from us. It's essential they understand the implications of this decision and work towards a solution that keeps our mail processing local.

Please join me in urging our Senators to step up and keep our mail processing equipment where it belongs - in Columbia, MO. Call them today and demand action to protect our local mail service:

- Josh Hawley: DC office 202-224-6154, CoMo office 573-554-1919
- Eric Schmitt: DC office 202-224-5721, CoMo office 573-514-8680

Sign this petition to safeguard our local mail services and ensure timely processing for all, especially with the critical mail-in ballots involved. Together, we can make sure Columbia's voice is heard.
