Keep Lehigh Free of Antisemitism

Keep Lehigh Free of Antisemitism
The Issue
This petition is in response to the current rise of antisemitism on the Lehigh University campus. We call on President Helble to take an unequivocal stance to publicly call out and denounce the recent acts of antisemitism that have plagued our campus. The events include a mezuzah being ripped down from a students door, Jewish students being the subject of a since recanted false accusation of a hate crime (which is not only against the Lehigh Student Code of Conduct, but a crime), posters containing blatant lies against Israel, and the spread of hate speech at the "Walkout for Palestine" rally including chants of "From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be Free", the effective erasure of 8 million Jews and the destruction of the State of Israel. Jewish students of Lehigh do not feel safe anymore. Cited below are the sections of the Lehigh Student Code of Conduct that these actions break, and there has yet to be any disciplinary action or statement from the university. If you value Lehigh as safe space for everyone, we urge you to sign this petition and continue making actionable efforts to make Lehigh University a safe campus for Jewish students and everyone alike.
From the Lehigh University Student Code of Conduct:
Proscribed Conduct:
A. Intentionally furnishing false information to a University official, Hearing Panel, or Conduct Officer.
C. Intentionally or recklessly initiating or causing to be initiated any false report including but not limited to false reports of fire, explosions, or other emergency or threats thereof.
I. Violating any Lehigh University policies, rules, or regulations, including but not limited to, residential living policies (General Provisions for Occupancy) and policies related to the use of the University computer network.
J. Encouraging or facilitating others in actions that violate the Code of Conduct.
VI. RESPECT FOR THE LAW
Lehigh University expects that its student members will act in accordance with all applicable federal, state, or local laws
From Lehigh University's Policy on Harassment and Non-Discrimination:
2.2.1. Hostile or Offensive Environment. A hostile or offensive work, learning, co-curricular, social or living environment occurs when a member of the University community or a visitor is subjected to unwelcome statements, jokes, gestures, pictures, touching, or other conduct that offends, demeans, harasses, or intimidates and is based on one or more of the protected characteristics set forth in Section 1.1 above. Harassment includes offensive verbal or physical conduct or text or graphic communication including through social media that has the purpose or effect of interfering with an individual’s work or educational performance, or has the purpose or effect of creating an intimidating, hostile, or offensive environment.
"The University will promptly investigate such complaints or incidents and will take prompt and appropriate measures, including disciplinary action, against individuals found to have violated this Policy."
