Important update — what happens next
To kick start our 2026 campaign we want to share an important update — and, crucially, what happens next.
Despite widespread opposition including a phenomenal 7,867 signatures on this petition, last year, RBKC Planning Committee voted to approve the Ballymore / Sainsbury’s “Project Flourish” .(Nov 11th 2025)
However, this is not the end of the approval process.
Because of the scale and significance of this proposal, the decision now moves to Stage 2, where it must be considered by the Mayor of London.
Request Mayor Khan call in Project Flourish
The Mayor has the power to intervene — either by directing refusal or by calling the scheme in for a more robust review. We have already submitted detailed representations setting out why this development is unsafe, unsustainable, and contrary to planning policy, and we believe there is a strong case for the Mayor to step in and overturn RBKC’s decision - not least because of the impact Project Flourish will have on adjacent boroughs of Brent, Westminster, Fulham and Chelsea but also the London wide impacts from the transmission of air borne toxins from the site.
This is a potential public health scandal that cannot go unchecked!
Launch of Crowd Justice Legal Action.
If the Mayor were to allow this scheme to proceed, there is only a short legal window to challenge that decision. For that reason, we have taken legal advice and are confident that there are strong grounds — particularly on environmental issues — to challenge this scheme if necessary.
A successful Legal action would make it mandatory to ensure safety protocols are in place and air pressure tenting used to cover the site to prevent toxic chemicals being released into the atmosphere.
How can you help?
We are asking residents if they can kindly contribute £10 so we can reach our target of £20,000 for legal fees This is to to cover work undertaken for the preparation of our case for a potential juridical review ,

Over the coming days and weeks, we will:
• Launch a new petition calling on the Mayor to intervene
• Share updates about the progress of our campaign for legal action
This campaign has already shown the strength of local voices and what can be achieved. Now we need one last push to stop this flawed toxic gasworks development and call instead, for safe sustainable housing solutions that meet the needs of local people and not overseas investors.
