The Issue

Protect Glendale, California: Keep ICE Out of Our Community

The presence of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Glendale, California has become a matter of deep concern for many residents. Our city is home to one of the most diverse populations in the nation, with families from countless backgrounds who have helped build Glendale into the vibrant community it is today. We urge the Glendale Mayor, City Council, City Manager, Glendale Police Department, and other local leaders to take immediate action to protect our neighbors, friends, and families from unnecessary immigration enforcement actions that create fear, separate families, and damage community trust.

Research has consistently shown that diverse communities strengthen local economies, foster innovation, and enrich cultural life. At the same time, when residents fear interacting with government agencies because of immigration enforcement, public safety suffers, families are destabilized, and entire neighborhoods become less likely to report crimes or cooperate with investigations.

There are several compelling reasons for Glendale to limit cooperation with ICE:

Protect Public Safety: When local law enforcement is viewed as working alongside federal immigration authorities, victims and witnesses are less likely to report crimes or seek help, making everyone in the community less safe.
Protect Human Dignity: Every person deserves to be treated with dignity and respect regardless of immigration status. Families should not live in constant fear that routine activities could lead to separation from loved ones.
Protect Glendale’s Economy: Immigrants contribute significantly to California’s workforce, small businesses, healthcare system, construction industry, education, and local economy. Policies that create fear can hurt businesses, reduce economic stability, and weaken the community as a whole.
To better protect Glendale residents, we call on city leaders to:

Adopt a city policy limiting voluntary cooperation with ICE beyond what federal and California law requires.
Ensure city resources are not used to assist immigration enforcement except where legally required.
Increase transparency regarding any interactions between city agencies and federal immigration authorities.
Provide ongoing training for city employees and law enforcement on the rights of all residents and best practices for serving Glendale’s diverse community.
Continue building trust between local government and every resident who calls Glendale home.
Glendale should be a place where every resident feels safe reporting crimes, attending school, going to work, seeking medical care, and participating in community life without unnecessary fear.

Sign this petition today to urge Glendale’s elected officials to protect our community, strengthen public trust, and keep Glendale a welcoming city for everyone.
