As a library user and a parent, I am deeply concerned about Birmingham City Council’s plan to close Hall Green and Yardley Wood Libraries on Saturdays—the busiest day of the week. Libraries are more than just buildings with books; they are lifelines for families, students, and the wider community. Yet, despite 80% of people in the council’s own consultation stating that Saturday is their preferred day to visit, the council is pushing ahead with closures.

This feels like a deliberate attempt to cut hours, reduce footfall, and pave the way for further closures. Many families, including mine, rely on these libraries for children’s activities, study spaces, internet access, and vital community services. Closing on Saturdays will leave countless residents without access to these essential resources.

We demand that our libraries remain open for at least four days per week including Saturdays.

Sign this petition to tell Birmingham City Council: our libraries matter, and we won’t accept these closures. Let’s stand together to protect our community spaces before it’s too late!
