"הקיבוץ בלוס אנג'לס" נפתח לפני כשנה  בלבה של הקהילה הישראלית הגדולה ביותר מחוץ למדינת ישראל. המודל של הפרויקט היה מבוסס על פרויקטים דומים ברחבי העולם  4 ישראלים אמריקאים דוברי עברית בשנות ה20 לחייהם עם יכולות חברתיות ומנהיגותיות יוצאות דופן חיים ביחד ומארגנים 5-6 אירועים  בחודש לצעירים בני גילם.

המטרות של הבית היו מגוונות: בראש ובראשונה לתת הזדמנות לישראלים אמריקאים צעירים לפגוש את בני גילם, לתרגל את העברית (הלפעמים נשכחת) שלהם וליצור חברויות ומערכות יחסים שהם יקחו איתם לשנים קדימה. השנים שאחרי האוניברסיטה (או הצבא במקרה של ישראלים רבים) הם השנים הקריטיות שבהם אנשים מחליטים את ההחלטות שיובילו אותם בהמשך חייהם: מי יהיו החברים שלהם, הקהילות שלהם ובני ובנות הזוג שלהם. ב"קיבוץ" אנו נוגעים באנשים  בנקודות המכריעות האלה של החיים ובכך שאנו יוצרים קהילה יהודית חמה ומשפחתית אנו דואגים שאנשים אלה ירצו לקחת חלק בקהילה כזאת שנים רבות קדימה.

אך מלבד להיות בית לישראלים אמריקאים לפרויקט היתה עוד מטרה אחת שהתבררה כלא פחות חשובה. "הקיבוץ" הפך להיות מעין גשר בין הקהילה היהודית אמריקאית לבין הישראלית פה בלוס אנג'לס. מהר מאוד התגלה שישנה דרישה מצד יהודים אמריקאים להכיר ולבלות עם ישראלים ולהפך. מרבית המשתתפים שמגיעים לאירועים שלנו הם בוגרי תגלית שמחפשים לשמר ולהרחיב את הקשר עם ישראל ובשבילם הדרך הזמינהוהטובה  ביותר לעשות זאת היא המפגש עם ישראלים אצלנו "בקיבוץ". מצד שני הרבה מהישראלים שמגיעים לפתח דלתנו הם ישראלים שהגיעו לארצות הברית בשנים האחרונות מסיבות שונות ורוצים לקחת חלק בחיי הקהילה היהודית בארה"ב אך קשיי שפה ופערים תרבותיים מרתיעים אותם מלעשות את זה. אנו עוזרים לישראלים לגשר על הפער הזה בכך שאנחנו עושים אירועים דו- לשוניים שמיועדים לשתי האוכלוסיות בסגנונות שונים וממליצים בפעמים רבות על אירועים יהודיים קהילתים שמתאימים לישראלים.

אנו גאים לומר שמאז ש"הקיבוץ" נפתח בינואר 2015 הוא היה הצלחה מסחררת. ב74 אירועים שעשינו מאז שהבית נפתח נכחו כ 1,280 אנשים. האירועים שעשינו היו בנושאים שונים ולמטרות שונות מאירועים בחגים לישראלים שאין להם איפה להיות, דרך מסיבות וערבי פנויים פנויות ועד אירועים חינוכיים על המאבק בדה לגיטימציה של ישראל ותרומה לקהילה.

פרויקט ה"קיבוץ" התאפשר באמצעות תרומה נדיבה של תורמים ישראלים. לאחרונה החליטו התורמים להפסיק את התמיכה בארגון מסיבות כלכליות ואם דבר לא ישתנה ייסגר הבית ב31 למאי השנה.

מטרתה של העצומה הזו היא להראות לראשי הקהילה היהודית והישראלית שישנו צורך ורצון להמשיך את פרויקט הקיבוץ. אם חשוב לך דור העתיד של הקהילה הישראלית אמריקאית, הזהות היהודית שלהם, הקשר שלהם עם ישראל, השפה שלהם והחיבור עם הקהילה היהודית הכללית אנו מבקשים שתחתום על העצומה הזו ותשתף אותה.

“Hakibutz” opened one year ago in Woodland Hills. With this house’s opening, we, and hundreds of other twenty-somethings in LA, found a home. The project was based on similar successful projects around the world, 4 Jewish young adults with exceptional social and leadership skills living together and organizing events for other Jewish young adults in their surrounding. But this project was different, it was the first time this kind of a house is built by Israeli Americans to serve Israeli Americans.

We, the residents of "Hakibutz" Woodland Hills, are a microcosm of our community. Two of us recently moved from Israel to the United States, and the other two were raised in the United States in Israeli, Hebrew-speaking families. By hosting 5-6 events each month, we have opened the doors to a vibrant Jewish community where friends can practice their Hebrew, meet other young professionals, and cultivate relationships that will last for many years to come.

For Israelis just arriving in the U.S. from Israel, this house provides an opportunity for engagement with the Jewish community. Language and cultural gaps often make it difficult for Israelis find a community where they feel comfortable. By hosting bilingual events, we create a space where Hebrew speakers and non-Hebrew speakers can connect over their Jewish identity. These events come in a variety of styles – and we assist Israelis in finding the community events that are right for them.

For those who have lived here for many years, this house fills a space that Hillel, Mishelanu, or other on-campus Jewish programs once filled. Upon graduation from college, young Israeli-American professionals often find themselves lacking the steadfast community that they had at home or in school. Our events provide opportunities to fill that void by shaping a new Jewish community that’s suitable for young professional life. Our gatherings also create a space where Israeli-Americans can practice their Hebrew, no matter what level they’re at.

But beside being a house only for Israeli Americans our house also served as a bridge between the Israeli American community and the rest of the Jewish community here in LA. We found out that for a lot of American Jews- many of whom are Birthright Israel alumni, the way to maintain their connection to Israel is through meetings and talks with Israelis.

The years after college (or in many Israelis’ cases, after the IDF) are the crucial years in which young people make the decisions that guide them throughout the rest of their lives: Who their friends will be, their communities, and their significant others. At the Kibbutz, we engage people who are at precisely these crucial stages in their lives. By creating a warm, welcoming community, we ensure that youngsters will be eager to take part in this type of community for years to come.

We are proud to say that since the Kibbutz has opened in January 2015, it has been a great success. In the 74 events we have had since the house opened, 1,280 community members have participated. The events we organized addressed different topics and communities. From holiday events for Israelis without a place to celebrate, parties, events opposing the de-legitimization of Israel, and even community service – there’s something for everyone.

Hakibutz project was made possible by a generous donation of Israeli Donors. We were recently informed that Hakibutz project will no longer receive this funding which means that this house must close down by May 31.
