Keep Gold Coast Aquatic Centres In Public Hands!
The issue
The City of Gold Coast Council is considering outsourcing the operation of four council-owned aquatic centres — Pimpama Sports Hub, Southport Aquatic Centre, Palm Beach Aquatic Centre and Upper Coomera Aquatic Centre — to a private operator.
This proposal could put more than 400 local jobs at risk and transfer control of vital community facilities to a company whose primary obligation is to deliver profit, not public service.
Gold Coast Aquatic Centres are much more than swimming pools. They are places where children learn life-saving water safety skills, seniors stay active, families come together, local sporting clubs train, and residents improve their health and wellbeing.
Outsourcing these services could reduce Council oversight and accountability over pricing, safety, staffing levels, job security for local workers, and service quality.
We believe Gold Coast Aquatic Centres should remain publicly operated, focused on people and safety, not profits.
Sign the petition and tell City of Gold Coast Councillors to protect local jobs and keep the community Aquatic Centres in public hands.
Afterwards - amplify your signature by adding your voice and writing a comment.
