As a deeply concerned member of the Lansing community, I am calling for the immediate resignation of President Frank Weller from Great Lakes Christian College. Mr. Weller hired Randy Willett, a convicted felon found guilty of raping a minor, despite knowledge of these offenses. Mr. Weller knowingly allowed Randy to be in a position of authority over vulnerable youth with the knowledge of his prior sex crimes. Mr. Weller's decision and continued defense normalizes threats to the safety of our students and our community.

Concerned students and community members had been contacting Mr. Weller for weeks regarding concerns about Randy’s employment at GLCC before going to social media. Mr. Weller defended his choice to hire Randy in the weeks leading up to the social media post. Randy’s employment with GLCC only ended because of public pressure, not because Mr. Weller is concerned about student safety.

Frank Weller's lack of regard for student safety by placing a known felon in a position of authority without notifying the students or their parents is unacceptable. It is a clear violation of their commitment to provide a safe environment for learning. 

It is a shocking reality that 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys will be sexually abused before they turn 18 years old (Source: U.S. Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website). We cannot stand by and allow individuals who prioritize our students’ safety to be in positions of leadership. 

We cannot allow for the safety of our students to be put at risk. We demand the immediate resignation of Frank Weller from Great Lakes Christian College to ensure this blatant oversight will not happen again.
