Keep Garfield Green Home: A Call for Deferred Action

The Issue

We, the undersigned, urgently call for the immediate recognition of Garfield Green's right to remain in the United States, where he can receive the critical medical care he desperately needs. Garfield has lived in the U.S. for over 30 years, contributing to his community and supporting his family. His ongoing struggle against deportation is not just a matter of immigration policy; it is a matter of life and health.

Why We Must Act:

1. Severe Health Risks: Garfield is an amputee who relies on a wheelchair for mobility and suffers from serious medical conditions, including diabetes and high blood pressure. Medical documentation clearly states that he is not even eligible to fly due to his debilitating health issues. If deported, he would face a significant risk of losing his other leg and potentially his life, as adequate medical care is not available in Jamaica.

2. Family Needs: Garfield's wife, teenage daughter, and young son have already endured significant emotional and financial hardship during his detention. His wife recently underwent emergency surgery on her spine, leaving Garfield to care for their minor son during this challenging time. The family needs him home for both emotional support and financial stability.

3. Community Advocate: While in detention, Garfield tirelessly organized efforts to improve conditions for others, connecting detainees with legal and community support. He has shown remarkable resilience and commitment to his community, and his contributions continue to be felt.

4. Risk of Detention: Garfield has already faced the threat of deportation, receiving a call from his deportation officer asking him to check-in. We must act now to secure deferred action for him to prevent any further trauma and instability for his family.

Take Action Now:

We urge ICE to grant Garfield Green deferred action, allowing him to remain in the United States where he can receive the medical care he urgently needs and be with his family.
