Keep Film Jobs In Georgia Thriving! Amend House Bill 1180

Keep Film Jobs In Georgia Thriving! Amend House Bill 1180
The Issue
House Bill 1180 threatens the structure and security of the film industry in Georgia. Tens of thousands of jobs could be lost!
THE DAMAGING THINGS THIS BILL WILL DO.
- Impose an annual cap on qualified transferable film tax credits, going from no cap to a 2.5% cap.
- This is a drastic change that will impact productions negatively and ultimately force them to seek film opportunities elsewhere.
- Require aggregate productions spend 10 million to qualify.
- This is a stipulation that previously sat at 1 million. Such a drastic increase will negatively impact film makers.
- Lawmakers acknowledge that Georgia's rural communities should also benefit from the states film industry, yet they have put no incentives in place to ensure that productions do so.
- We propose that Georgia offer an additional 5% film tax incentive to productions that film in rural areas. This measure would help support smaller communities.
This bill, as it is currently structured, sets the Georgia Film Industry up for failure. Such significant changes will cause numerous productions to leave Georgia. They will seek incentives in other states and Georgia will lose tens of thousands of jobs.
