As an ECHS parent, I am deeply concerned about the proposed relocation of the Leander ISD Early College High School (ECHS) from the Austin Community College (ACC) San Gabriel Campus to the former Faubion Elementary facility. This decision could severely undermine the students, families, and dedicated staff who benefit immensely from the existing setup at the ACC campus, which has been a crucial driver of academic success for our students.

The San Gabriel ACC campus provides a unique environment where our students have access to college-level resources, fostering an atmosphere that encourages educational growth and college preparedness. Relocating the ECHS away from this academic community not only interrupts this crucial synergy but also deprives our students of direct access to resources that are instrumental in their educational journeys.

One significant point of contention is the lack of transparency from Leander ISD regarding how academic standards will be upheld after the move. Parents and community members have yet to receive a detailed plan outlining how this transition will ensure that students continue to benefit from the high-quality education they currently receive. Transparency in this process is crucial, as it affects the future of hundreds of students and alters the district's educational landscape.

Moreover, a move to the former Faubion Elementary facility appears to be an inefficient use of taxpayer dollars. The 2023 voter-approved bond funded the creation of specific plans for a dedicated ECHS facility. Redirection to repurpose an elementary space for a high school undermines the intention of the bond, raises questions about fiscal responsibility, and sets a concerning precedent for future decisions within the district.

We urge Leander ISD to reconsider this move and to prioritize the educational needs and success of ECHS students. By keeping the school at the San Gabriel ACC campus, we continue to support a system that provides vital college-level opportunities tailored for student readiness.
