Petition Update: Initial Submission of Petition Names Complete

East Sooke and Copper Mine Area NeighboursCanada
Apr 7, 2026

Thank you to everyone who has signed and shared the petition!

We wanted to provide a brief update to let supporters know that the petition names have now been formally submitted to the CRD Board, as suggested by the Juan de Fuca Regional Director, in advance of the April 8 CRD Board meeting.

The petition has also now been formally submitted to Minister of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship Randene Neill, Minister of Forests Ravi Parmar, and MLA Dana Lajeunesse, and has been submitted through the application comment portal so that it is attached directly to the Crown land application process.

As the petition continues to grow, an updated submission will be provided to these individuals again before the May 6 deadline so that the most current level of public opposition is on record.

There is not a major new development to report at this time, but we wanted supporters to know that your signatures are being used, and that your support is helping ensure this opposition is formally documented.

Most importantly, if you have not yet contacted individual decision-makers directly, or submitted comments on each of the three specific application links, please do so now. Those submissions are extremely important and remain the most important action people can take at this time.

Please continue to share the petition and encourage others to take those steps as well.

Thank you again to everyone who has taken the time to sign, share, email decision-makers directly, and support this effort.

We will share another update as soon as more information becomes available.
