The Issue

All across the country, data centers have become synonymous with environmental degradation and community disruptions. The residents of Rapid City, South Dakota, are rightly alarmed at the prospect of these data giants setting up shop in our beloved town. Imagine waking up to the incessant hum of machinery, not being able to enjoy the crisp, clean air we cherish, and finding your water supply compromised by toxic waste. These are not figments of the imagination but harsh realities faced by communities that have had data centers imposed upon them.

In our neighboring states, reports have surfaced about the increased levels of health issues traced back to the toxic waste dumped by these centers into the local water supply. Concerns of infertility, respiratory problems, and other severe health conditions are rising, all linked to environmental pollutants introduced by these data hubs. The noise pollution from the constant operations of these facilities further erodes the peaceful quality of life we've cultivated, making our homes less livable and undesirable to prospective buyers. This situation leaves residents trapped, unable to escape the deteriorating conditions because their properties lose value precipitously.

Moreover, the power requirements for operating these data centers are astronomical, often resulting in surging electricity bills for local residents who receive no benefit from the data centers' presence. Why should the people of Rapid City bear the financial and environmental burden of facilities primarily serving corporations profiting off remote digital operations?

Realizing these consequences, we must act preemptively to safeguard our town from suffering similar fates. We owe it to our children and ourselves to ensure that Rapid City remains a healthy, vibrant community, unmarred by pollution and noise. Rejecting the establishment of data centers in our area is essential to preserving the integrity of our local environment and the quality of life for all residents.

It's time to take a stand. Let’s protect the unique character and health of our land for future generations. Say no to the toxic encroachment of data centers. Join this movement to keep our community safe and sustainable.

Sign this petition to voice your opposition against data centers in Rapid City, SD. Demand action from local leaders to prioritize our community’s health and environment over corporate interests.
