The Issue

We, the residents and community members of North Branch, Minnesota, are asking our local leaders to protect the future of our community by opposing any development of  data centers within or surrounding North Branch.

Data centers can have significant impacts on a community, including demands on water and electricity, infrastructure, land use, noise, environmental resources, and long-term development. Before any project moves forward, residents deserve a meaningful opportunity to understand the potential costs, benefits, risks, and long-term consequences.

This petition calls on the City of North Branch and its elected officials to:

Oppose the development of any data centers in North Branch.

Protect our community's water resources and infrastructure.

Require full transparency regarding proposed data center projects, agreements, incentives, utility demands, and public costs.

Give North Branch residents a meaningful voice in decisions that could permanently affect our community.

Prioritize responsible development that aligns with the needs, values, and long-term interests of North Branch residents.

Our community should not be asked to accept major changes to our land, water, infrastructure, and quality of life without a full public discussion and the informed consent of the people who live here.

We believe North Branch's future should be determined by its residents—not by outside corporations or short-term economic promises.

We are asking North Branch leaders to listen to the community and keep all data centers out of North Branch.

“Thank you for the email. All I will say is currently we are reviewing our current zoning to ensure we have the proper language to guide the right development for our community. If the council was pro data center blindly we would have never voted for a moratorium on the subject. We are trying to be proactive and responsible vs being caught after the applications are submitted and it becomes very hard to block. We are working the process the right way and appreciate the public support and feedback in a polite and timely manner. Thanks [Note: The Change.org Civic Engagement Team reaches out to decision makers to let them know about petitions in their community and to help facilitate engagement with supporters. The above was an email response we received regarding this petition.]”
