The Issue

Commuters in Erith, Abbey Wood, Plumstead, Woolwich, Charlton, Blackheath, have now lost their long standing off peak Charing Cross trains, these are valuable services to the West End, even after the Elizabeth line’s opening this spring Charing Cross trains are still well used.

Charing Cross is at the heart of the West End, and is a popular off peak and weekend destination, changing trains at London Bridge will add to journey times.

Southeastern are using the new Elizabeth line as an excuse to cut services to Charing Cross yet most of the areas who rely on Charing Cross are too far away to fully benefit from it.

They have also axed the Sunday service between Lewisham & Blackheath to the Woolwich line, breaking a popular and well used link.

Waterloo East is also the nearest station to St. Thomas’s Hospital one of South East London’s largest hospitals and is also linked to Britain’s busiest train station and a gateway to SW London, Surrey, Hampshire and Dorset at London Waterloo.

Those with mobility issues will find changing trains awkward and difficult.

The Elizabeth line was supposed to be an addition to SE London’s transportation network, not a replacement of a long standing service.

We cannot lose this valuable and popular link.

We need to get our Charing Cross trains back this spring or else it’ll be many years of poor services from South Eastern.
