Keep Cats&Soup Accessible to Free-to-Play Players
The Issue
With over 30 million downloads, it's no secret Cats&Soup is a beloved mobile game. However, the changes brought about to events with the 2.15.0 update are disheartening to players. Events have historically allowed all players to obtain limited-edition items by playing the game, regardless of whether they spend money or not. The newly added "Event Pass" and "Royal Pass" has locked limited-edition items behind a paywall, which is extremely unfair given the historical "free" nature of events. Players have increasingly been feeling like the game is becoming too commercialized, and this is yet another instance of unnecessary monetization added. Dear developers,
I am writing on behalf of the Cats&Soup community to express our disappointment with the recent changes to the game’s event system.
First and foremost, let me emphasize our immense gratitude for the incredible efforts you have put into developing and maintaining a game that we all love and enjoy. We have all greatly enjoyed playing Cats&Soup, and one of the reasons behind our enthusiasm has been the inclusive nature of events. Whether you are someone who spends money on the game or not, you can always get special event items for free if you spend the right amount of time playing.
However, we are now disheartened to see that event items that in the past would have been free for all, have now become locked behind the paywall of the “Royal Pass”. As loyal supporters and dedicated players, we understand the need for monetization, but we believe it’s essential to maintain a fair and inclusive environment.
We urge you to reconsider this decision and explore alternative methods to generate revenue without compromising the core values and enjoyment of the game for all players. We will not be purchasing the “Royal Pass” as an expression of our disappointment and we hope that you will take our concerns into account.
