NO Late Night SEP - Keep Byron Vibrant & Safe
Dear Supporters,
firstly an apology that the last update had the upcoming community meeting as the incorrect day of the week. It is being held on this coming Monday evening, and not Sunday as stated in my last update.
Now a huge thank you again to everyone who has signed, shared, and spoken up. Together, we’ve now reached 1,050 signatures — a clear message that Byron wants safety, not more late-night risk.
This proposed Late-Night SEP would allow more venues to serve alcohol into the early hours, despite no safe late-night transport, poor lighting, overstretched police, and a hospital already at capacity. That means more violence, fatigue-related crashes, and further pressure on emergency services — exactly what our town can’t afford.
We all support a vibrant Byron — full of art, music, and community — but this proposal takes us backwards. Safety must come first.
WHAT’S NEW
Community voices growing
More local business owners and residents are speaking out. Recent interviews — including with Rachael Calvert and others — have been shared on Instagram, giving real insight into how this proposal could impact everyday life and safety in our town.

Next goal: 2,000 signatures
There’s no fixed threshold for Council to respond, but reaching 2,000 signatures before Councillors vote in late November will make this one of the most supported community campaign in Byron Shire’s history — and impossible to ignore.

COMMUNITY MEETING — MONDAY 3 November
Join us for a public forum at the Byron Bay Community Centre, 6–8 pm.
Local experts will discuss the safety, health, and planning implications of the SEP, and Councillors will be invited to attend. Let’s come together to show that Byron cares about getting vibrancy right.
STILL NO RESPONSE FROM NSW DECISION MAKERS
It’s now been over six weeks since my personal formal submissions were sent to the Premier and key Ministers — with still no verbal or written reply.
Other campaign leaders are having formal contact with key decision makers and getting our message to those that make the decision which is greatly appreciated. Lots of hard work by our campaign leaders is happening in the background.
Our community deserves transparency and accountability on this critical public safety issue.
KEEP THE MOMENTUM GOING
This campaign is about protecting what makes Byron special — its creativity, inclusivity, and sense of safety and belonging.
