Brown Girls Swim is a new black owned and operated organization committed to eliminating the barriers that contribute to the minority gap in swimming. Since launching in April 2021 Brown Girls Swim created a Learn to Swim Program for the community using the Dryades YMCA pool. Since their launch Brown Girls Swim received over 700 enrollments into their Learn to Swim Program.

Unfortunately the new leadership at the Dryades YMCA has communicated the desire to no longer provide their pool to Brown Girls Swim despite Brown Girls Swim ability to bring more community members to the facility. Since Brown Girls Swim launched at Dryades YMCA they have bought in more people of color to utilize the pool facility and even members of Brown Girls Swim begin to obtain YMCA memberships for aquatic purposes.

We believe the work Brown Girls Swim do to create a space for people of color in the aquatic community is essential!
