The Issue

I am coming to you as a deeply concerned family member, currently witnessing the heart-wrenching process of a child being removed from their family in Blair County. Moving children away from their homes is not only emotionally devastating but also has several long-term effects on the child's development. Studies suggest that children growing up in foster care often experience psychological trauma and struggle with social relationships in adulthood (American Journal of Public Health, 2014). It is crucial now - more than ever - to uphold the child's best interests which is to stay with known family members.

In Blair County, we believe that relatives and close family friends should be given first consideration when placing a child, according to the Kinship Care Policy from the Child Welfare League of America. However, the reality on the ground is different. Many families in Blair County experience the painful separation of children being placed into foster care, instead of being kept within the family. We urge the local authorities, child protection services, and decision-makers to revisit their policies and procedures.

Our demand is simple: Prioritize kinship care over foster care in Blair County and safeguard the mental and emotional wellbeing of our children. Each signature on this petition strengthens our plea. Please sign and share, let's ensure Blair County's children stay with their families.
