As a lifelong Des Moines resident, I believe closing Birdland pool will have a negative impact on the city and the residents. 

There are obvious reasons to have a community pool. Its a place that offers swimming lessons or because a lifeguard is present people can swim with less risk of drowning, offers a relatively inexpensive recreational activity and provides relief from Iowa's hot summers. Birdland is  located in an area that is already underserved. Its also located near a bus line and within a walkable distance for many kids that live in or near that area. 

Please sign this petition to let the city council know that we understand the budget is tight but we fund our priorities. Birdland is a valuable resource that has served literally generations of Iowans and we hope it will remain that way.
