The Issue

To Whom It May Concern,

We, the undersigned, are residents, visitors, and supporters of Big Creek Lake, a local gem that has been accessible for boating and other recreational activities for over 50 years. It has come to our attention that parts of Big Creek Lake have already been closed off for non-boating activities, and there is now a looming threat that the entire lake may be closed off for boating activities as well. This decision by the local government deeply concerns us for several reasons.

Big Creek Lake is not just a body of water; it's a community gathering place, a hub for recreational activities, and a significant contributor to our local economy. The lake has provided countless memories and joyful moments for families, friends, and individuals who seek the solace and adventure that only nature can provide.

We understand that there may be concerns that led to this consideration. However, we strongly believe that with proper management, regulations, and community cooperation, any issues can be addressed without resorting to a full closure. The lake has coexisted with the community for decades without significant problems, demonstrating that a balance between recreational use and environmental or safety concerns is achievable.

Therefore, we petition the local government to:

1. Reconsider the decision to close Big Creek Lake to boating activities.

2. Engage with the community, lake users, and stakeholders in an open dialogue to address concerns and explore alternative solutions.

3. Implement measures that ensure the lake's sustainable use without depriving the community of its benefits.

We urge the local government to recognize the importance of Big Creek Lake to our community's heritage, well-being, and economy. Let's work together to keep Big Creek Lake accessible for all who cherish it.

Sincerely,
