Keep Bellerive Oval in Clarence Council Ownership
The issue
PETITION TO THE CLARENCE CITY COUNCIL IN ACCORDANCE WITH PART 6 OF THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT ACT, 1993
SUBJECT: Retain Council Ownership of Bellerive Oval (Ninja Stadium)
We, the undersigned, petition the Mayor and Councillors of the City of Clarence to retain the ownership of Bellerive Oval (Ninja Stadium) as a community asset owned by the City of Clarence on behalf of the people of Clarence.
BACKGROUND: Why is this petition needed?
Stadiums Tasmania's publications say the organisation is working to “transition” Bellerive Oval into its integrated statewide network, while its Annual Report states that Stadiums Tasmania is “designated to assume ownership and operational responsibility” of Bellerive and that ownership transfer negotiations are ongoing.
That concerns me because Bellerive Oval is currently owned by Clarence City Council – and I believe it should stay that way.
Last year, I successfully moved to ensure the future of the Oval was properly examined and, importantly, that our community would have a say before any decision about its future ownership is made.
With community consultation expected shortly after the election, who you elect matters.
I support working constructively with Stadiums Tasmania. I am open to an appropriate long-term lease or management arrangement that could bring investment and opportunities to the Oval.
But a lease does not require Clarence Council to surrender ownership.
✍️ Please sign this petition calling on Clarence City Council to keep Bellerive Oval in Council ownership – on behalf of the people of Clarence. Please encourage your family, friends and neighbours to sign also.
🗳️ And when you vote in the upcoming Council elections, consider carefully who you trust to protect this important community asset. Bellerive Oval belongs to Clarence. With your support, I will continue to fight to keep it that way.
