The Issue

I have cherished the peace and quiet of my neighborhood since 21 Hampton has closed. However, this sense of tranquility has been shattered ever since Mr. Gary Miller purchased this property to once again make it a bar in an R-1 zoning district. Instead of enjoying serene evenings in my yard or a quiet night in, I fear I will again have incessant noise and disruption caused by this unwanted establishment.

R-1 zoning districts are carefully designated for residential areas to preserve the community-focused living environment. Allowing bars to operate within these zones neglects the intended purpose of creating a refuge for families and individuals who value privacy, peace, and security. Unfortunately, the presence of such a business here compromises the quality of life for all residents.

The noise, litter, and occasional disturbances resulting from late-night revelry are issues that no homeowner should have to endure in a district zoned for residential serenity. This is not an isolated concern. Numerous studies have shown that the presence of bars and similar establishments in residential areas leads to increased noise pollution, traffic, and even crime rates, thereby jeopardizing the safety and well-being of local residents.

During the last Zoning Hearing Board meeting, Mr. Miller’s attorney insinuated our homes are old and  not “worth” enough money to bother building a home there instead of a bar. This is our neighborhood, the place we spend our time, live with our family, help other neighbors and take pride in our homes.

We call upon city officials to uphold the integrity of R-1 zoning laws and prevent  bars from invading these neighborhoods. By doing so, they not only act in the best interest of current residents but also maintain the attractiveness and sanctity of our community for future homeowners.

Please consider joining this petition to safeguard our residential zones. Together, we can work toward a neighborhood that reflects our values and priorities. Stand with us to keep our community tranquil and inviting by ensuring R-1 zoning districts remain untouched by unwanted businesses. Sign this petition, and make your voice heard.
